Labor and Delivery Scrub Technician / Surgical Technologist

 

The Labor and Delivery Scrub Technician / Surgical Technologist is accountable for the technical functions related to the "scrub" role during the surgical patient's perioperative experience. The functions of this role include preparing the Labor and Delivery OR's environment, and equipment, instrumentation and supply utilization. This team member is responsible to the circulating RN and works in concert with the philosophy and goals of the department.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification is required.
  • Virginia Board of Medicine Surgical Technologist license: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
  • Licensed by the VA board of medicine.
  • One year of scrub experience and certification in Surgical Technology preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipates and provides needed supplies and equipment with consideration to age, size and weight of patients.
  • Operates equipment according to manufacturer's instructions. 
  • Uses supplies in a judicious and cost effective manner.
  • Prepares suture. 
  • Checks instruments for proper functioning and passes them correctly.
