Cytotechnologist

We are looking for a Cytotechnologist who is responsible for microscopically screening and classifying cells based on specific criteria from FNAs, body fluids and exfoliative cytology (Pap smears). Responsible for taking over Cytology Prep Tech duties as needed. Responsible to comply with and enforce all safety and infection control policies, procedures, and regulations.

• College Diploma preferred.
• Completion of required training in Cytotechnology required.
• Two years of Healthcare/Medical- Cytotechnology experience.

• Microscopic screening/evaluation of cytologic specimens.
• Monitors, performs and records all appropriate quality controls.
• Assists in special cytology collection procedures including fine needle aspiration biopsies.
• Records patient information and results. Phones critical results as required.
• Reports all abnormal and/or out of control patient results to supervisor, division head or Pathologist. Repeats if applicable.
• Maintain equipment used for testing and record daily preventative maintenance as required; be able to troubleshoot problems on instruments.
• Prepare required reports including workload recording.
• Specimen accession, prepping, and staining.
• Files cytology slides when appropriate.
• Informs appropriate personnel promptly when supplies and supplies of reagents are low or about to expire.
• Keep up-to-date on technologies and information which apply to incumbent's duties by attending workshops, meetings and other continuing education opportunities on a regular basis.
• Competency levels of procedures on training checklist maintained and assessed yearly by supervisor.
