VHC Health Physicians is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible OB Hospitalist to join our growing Women's Health team. The OB Hospitalist will provide comprehensive inpatient obstetrical care and serve as a key clinical resource for labor and delivery services. Working closely with community obstetricians, Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, nursing teams, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other specialists, the OB Hospitalist will support the safe and efficient delivery of high-quality care to mothers and babies.

Position Overview 
 
The OB Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient obstetrical care, labor and delivery coverage, emergency obstetrical services, and clinical support for hospitalized obstetrical patients. 
This physician serves as an essential member of the obstetrical care team, ensuring timely evaluation and management of laboring patients, obstetrical emergencies, and unassigned patients while collaborating closely with community physicians and hospital-based providers to support excellent maternal and neonatal outcomes. 
 
Clinical Responsibilities 
 
• Provide continuous inpatient obstetrical coverage for Labor and Delivery services 
• Evaluate and manage obstetrical patients presenting to Labor and Delivery triage and the Obstetrical Emergency Department 
• Manage laboring patients and support safe vaginal and operative deliveries when clinically indicated 
• Perform obstetrical procedures consistent with training, credentialing, and privileges, including cesarean deliveries and operative vaginal deliveries 
• Respond to and manage obstetrical emergencies, including postpartum hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal distress, and other urgent maternal-fetal conditions 
• Collaborate with community obstetricians, Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and nursing teams 
• Provide consultation and support for nursing staff and other members of the Women's Health team 
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and obstetrical readiness initiatives 
• Support adherence to evidence-based clinical practice standards and departmental protocols 
• Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, obstetrical safety committees, and performance improvement activities 
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation 
 
Qualifications 
 
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school 
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology 
• Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia 
• Current DEA registration or eligibility required 
• Demonstrated expertise in labor management, obstetrical emergencies, and operative obstetrics 
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment 
• Commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, and exceptional patient care

Job Description

Purpose & Scope: 

The physician is a member of the healthcare team who works in collaboration with other staff to provide comprehensive healthcare services to patients. The scope of practice of each physician is defined through the health system’s credentialing and privileging committee.


The Physician supports objectives, budget, and performance metrics at the individual level.

Supports all medical activities at the individual level including implementation of quality control standards, risk management and compliance programs.

The role of a physician is to provide quality clinical care to those individuals who have chosen VHC Health in a timely manner to meet the needs of our patients.
 

Education: 

Doctorate from Accredited Medical School is required.

Experience:

One year of Medical/Surgical experience required.

Certifications/Licensure:

Licensed to Practice Medicine by the Virginia Department of Health Professions is required.
