Assistant Director, Respiratory Therapy

Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director in the operation and maintenance of the Department of Respiratory, Pulmonary, Sleep, and EEG Services as well as serving as Bronchoscopy Suite Coordinator.

In conjunction with the Director, the Assistant Director develops and coordinates safe respiratory care practice. Also plans, develops and implements the departmental annual budget, process improvement, employee education, accreditation and development of long-range department goals and objectives.

In addition, this management position is responsible for the supervision of the staff in Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary Sleep Lab and EEG Lab. A strong clinical / technical background in respiratory care, pulmonary physiology and diagnostic instrumentation is necessary.

Interpretive, interactive, consultative and supervisory skills are inherent in this position.
The ability to retrieve, communicate and otherwise present information in a written, oral or visual fashion is essential. Speaking, writing and telephone skills as well as manual dexterity are required for this position.

Education:

Associate degree in respiratory care is required.

Bachelor's degree in respiratory care is preferred.

Experience:

Three years of experience in respiratory therapy is required.

Three years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required.

Registered Respiratory Therapist by NBRC is required.

Other Qualifications

• Job requires a high level of problem solving due to the complexity of the situations encountered.
• Work assignments are generally received in the form of broad goals or areas of responsibility and require considerable judgment regarding the interpretation of policies, development of procedures, and selection of appropriate courses of action.
