Purpose & Scope:
Prepares sterile and non-sterile medications for distribution under the supervision of pharmacists and is responsible for managing the medication distributive processes, equipment and systems across the hospital. The IV technician also undertakes various activities in the sterile compounding areas not requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. The IV Technician will act as primary contact and provide direction for all sterile compounding room activities. He/she will be responsible for completion of assigned operational tasks. The IV Technician will provide direction and participates in the supervision and training of other pharmacy staff working in the sterile compounding room. The IV Technician must function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience:
One year of experience as Pharmacy Technician in a hospital environment is required.
One year of pharmacy sterile compounding experience is preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic mathematics is required.
Certification/Licensure:
Licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions is required.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.
