Interventional Radiology Technician (IR Tech) Trainee

Purpose & Scope:

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist Trainee will experience a progressive and independent clinical education guided by the program’s Director, Staff/Lead Technologists, and IR providers.

Under supervision and/or direction performs a variety of technical procedures that will require ingenuity and initiative in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas and procedures as required, including, but not exclusively, those responsibilities necessary for proper functioning of the Interventional Radiology Section.

Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited program in radiologic technology is required.

Experience:

None

Certification/Licensure:

Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
BLS certification required.

• Review interventional radiology cases with the Chief IR physician and other IR medical providers to gain a rounded introduction to the specialty.
• Rotate through Neuro and Vascular Interventional Radiology.
• Scrub and circulate IR procedures and operates radiographic equipment effectively and efficiently while under the supervision and/or direction of staff technologists and supervisor. Identify and understand procedure specific equipment.
• Identify and understand supply par levels and basis of inventory management.
• Under the supervision and/or direction of staff technologist and supervisor, the IR Tech Trainee will observe and/or assist with:
  • Cardiac Life Support
  • Contrast Administration
  • IV Therapy
  • Emergency Care
• Adheres to radiation safety regulation and practices to ensure proper radiation protection for patients and personnel.
• The IR Tech Trainee will be responsible for the following components of patient care:
  • Patient Safety
  • Patient Communication
  • Patient Assessment
  • Introduction to Radiation Safety
  • Aseptic and Sterile Techniques
• Participates in department staff meetings, in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental policies, procedures and performance improvement processes.
• Participates in Medical Imaging and corporate PI projects.
