Job Description

 

Purpose & Scope:

Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require ingenuity and initiative in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas and procedures as required, including, but not exclusively, those responsibilities necessary for proper functioning of the Interventional Radiology Section.

 

Education:

  • An associate degree in radiological procedure is preferred.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in diagnostic radiology is required.
  • One year of experience in special procedures is required.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI required.

Additional Job Description

Duties:

  • Obtain permission to perform the exam prior to the start of any procedure and written consent for all procedures including invasive, and IV contrast media prior to the start of any procedure from patient or designated parents/legal guardians.
  • Perform all exams according to the policy and procedure manual.
  • Document exam and any pertinent information.
  • Procedure high quality diagnostic images.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely.
  • Knowledge of film filing system and retrieve films as needed.
  • Maintains staff schedules. Assures proper staffing of the radiology area.
  • Perform a motion-free exam according to the policies and procedures manual.
  • Be knowledgeable of all Radiology and Interventional Radiology equipment.
  • Interface with other departments as needed to expedite radiological services and assure patient care.
  • Assist with orientation and training of other Departmental staff members and/or student technologists.
  • Provide radiation protection. Use collimation and shielding on all patients. Provide lead aprons or other protection to persons near x-ray exposure.
  • Maintain the suites/procedures rooms in emergency readiness at all times.
  • Be knowledgeable in computer operations, and keep accurate patient records/charges.
  • Responsible for nightly shut-down of equipment.
  • Document allergies and pertinent patient history from parent/legal guardian.
  • Always make patient comfortable and recognize needs of a patient during the procedure, providing table mats and blankets as needed.
  • Always provide privacy for the patient.
  • Review preparation information with Interventional Radiologist prior to performing an invasive or contrast media procedure.
  • Always review the procedure process and necessary equipment with the physician before engaging the patient in the room.
  • Ensure the equipment is in working order and you have sufficient supplies to complete the exam.
  • Always have a second individual in the room with you for all cases regardless of patient status- in or out. No technologist is to be in a procedure by themselves to ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Keep track of all supplies and contrast used on each exam.
  • Bill patients appropriately per procedure using the IDX Rad and Spacetrax systems.
  • Ensure rooms are properly stocked for all procedures that are scheduled that day.
